Women’s Self-Defense
EMPOWERED Women’s Self-Defense Course
6 Hours that will change your life.
1 in 3 women will be assaulted in their lifetimes. Do you realize the significance of that number? What if 1 in 3 people who entered a swimming pool drowned? Or, 1 in 3 people who drove a car were seriously injured in an accident? Do you think that would change your behavior around swimming pools and automobiles? You bet it would, and yet, when it comes to personal protection, so few women make the small investment to get the training they need.
Part of the problem is a lack of availability of qualified training. There are several people who have pieces to the puzzle…for example:
Martial arts studios provide excellent training in fighting skills, but most traditional schools would admit that self-defense is only a part of their regimen and not really the goal of their instruction. That’s ok, though. I am a huge advocate of traditional martial arts training, but I am also honest about which parts of it are applicable in modern day personal protection.
Another circle is the MMA gyms and ground fighting systems. Again, there are some excellent skills to be learned here…excellent pieces to the puzzle, but the truth is that a street fight doesn’t happen in a ring with a referee. I get tired of hearing that “90 percent of all street fights go to the ground”. It is just not practical or valid. Do you need ground fighting skills? YES. Do you want to be on the ground? NO. The truth is that most street fights and altercations involve multiple people…and that makes going to the ground impractical.
Law Enforcement and Military personnel often frequent the front lines of what is really out there. They see and take part in real world altercations, but the truth of the matter is that the typical private citizen doesn’t want to make that their daily lifestyle. Another sad truth…law enforcement training is extremely limited and all its defensive tactics techniques are based on limiting agency liability first, and then protecting the officer second. For the average woman seeking self-defense, that mindset is just not going to cut it. Lastly, typical police certification consists of 40 hours of defensive tactics training. Add another 40 hours and you are deemed to be an instructor. The hard truth is that most certified tactical instructors have little to no experience in martial arts training. We measure progress in years of training, not hours.
So what does that mean to you? I have put together the EMPOWERED Women’s Self-Defense Course to address the real world problems that I have encountered as a law enforcement officer in a specialized unit, and applied real world solutions that I have learned over the past 30 years training in the martial arts. I will help you cut to the chase and learn what you need to know about reality based conflict resolution. I’m not here guessing about what things are like on the street and I’m not going to walk you through a three year program to get your black belt. Six hours. Six hours is all I need to unleash the warrior within you.
What can I possibly learn in 6 hours?
I get this question all the time. A one day intensive course doesn’t seem like much time, and it is not going to replace regular physical training. What these six hours will do for you, however, is allow you to understand a few empowering truths that will make you a dramatically more effective fighter than you are today. You will learn:
-Most altercations can be avoided with proper planning and that has nothing to do with your size, strength or gender.
-You already have the power you need to hurt someone bigger and stronger than you.
-Human aggression is…well, it is a human trait. Just like the attacker on the street who uses their aggression to take from others, we will show you how to use your aggression to end attacks.
-The sympathetic nervous system will cause changes in your body that you will not understand. Expecting these changes to occur and knowing how to mitigate them will allow you to avoid Freezing when you should be Fleeing or Fighting.
-Interpersonal Aggression has psychological “rules”. Only one side can fully commit to an attack or defense at a time. One person will always be in a psychologically protective mode while the other will be in a psychologically aggressive mode. We show you when you can legally defend yourself and how you can exploit this “defensive gap”.
-Most attackers will select multiple targets and then attack the one they feel will most likely not fight back or get them caught. We teach you how to become a harder target so that you stay off the radar of harmful people.
-Knowing when to fight is just as important as knowing how to fight. We will discuss legalities of self-defense and help you decide your personal triggers so you know when to fight back.
